(copyright Beverley Boorer) Did you ever dream of having a beautiful garden in which to rest and relax? I did. It was a long-held dream of mine to have a garden I could call my own. Not just any garden, but one that I had planned and designed myself, right from the word go - that was a reflection of my own personality. One that all my friends would admire and envy.
Many times I have wandered the grounds of historical or botanical gardens with envy. Knowing how much effort had gone into the making and upkeep of such gardens. Always, the dream was out of my reach, but not any more. I?m not talking about your average strip of dirt by the front fence. I wanted a garden with beautiful curves, full of greenery and flowers ? and other things to interest and tease the imagination. But any mention of garden and what?s the next word we think of?
DIG.
That?s right. Hard, muscle wrenching, gut-busting work! I tried that, too. After all, I?m not lazy. I?m the kind of person who is determined to achieve my dreams, even if at first they seem impossible.
I was so determined to have my garden that I took the shovel and pickaxe out to the lawn and began to dig! The ground was rock hard so you can imagine what happened. After I had dug a piece of ground the size of two pocket-handkerchiefs, I dropped the shovel, tripped over the pickaxe handle and almost fell onto the bottom step. I had blisters as big as dimes and it took half an hour before I could straighten my back. There had to be a better way! An easier way! And there was!.... page 1
Folks if I asked you if you would prefer to have a garden by the hard work of digging, or would you rather have the same (or better) garden without digging, what would you answer? There's no doubt about it - I'd rather have a garden without digging. Just thinking of all that hard work makes my back ache.
